Vrata ("the App") is developed by the Vrata team. This policy explains what data the App uses, what leaves your device, and how it is handled. In short: no account, no analytics, no ads, and your practice data stays on your device. A few optional features make a single request to an outside service, and those are covered below.
Vrata has no account or login, no ads, and no third-party analytics or tracking SDKs. It does not profile you and does not sell or share your data.
Your preferences and practice data (tradition, language, theme, notification settings, fasting history, japa counts, reading progress, and your chosen city) are kept on your device in local storage. We cannot see this data, and it is never uploaded to us. Deleting the App removes it.
Reminders, if you turn them on, are scheduled as local notifications on your device. There is no push server, so nothing about them leaves your phone.
Location and timings. Vrata calculates sunrise, sunset, and Ekadashi timings on your device using a built-in astronomy library, so your location is not sent to us for that. Location is optional; you can type a city by hand instead. If you tap "Use my current location," your approximate coordinates are sent to the OpenStreetMap Nominatim service to look up the city name. If you type a city, that text is sent to the same service to find its coordinates. It is a single lookup with nothing else about you attached, handled under OpenStreetMap's privacy policy. Only the resulting city is saved, and it stays on your device.
Story narration. Some stories offer optional spoken narration. When you tap play, the audio streams from our media host (a Cloudflare R2 bucket). As with loading any file over the internet, that request includes your device's IP address so the host can deliver it. No other personal data is attached, and audio loads only when you choose to play it.
Vrata can send anonymous crash reports to help fix bugs. This is
off by default and only runs if you turn it on under
More > Privacy > Crash reporting. When on, a crash sends a
diagnostic report (the error and stack trace) to our crash-reporting provider,
configured to exclude your IP address and device identifiers. Left off, no crash
data is sent.
The App is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from them.
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this URL with a new effective date.
